From prescription to billing
How a treatment works with us, what's on your prescription and who pays what in the end – for statutory health insurance patients as well as privately insured and self-paying patients.
How it works
Five steps to the final treatment
Between your call and the first treatment there are usually only a few days – we plan the entire series right at the initial appointment so the intervals are right.
- 1
Call or message
Get in touch at +49 30 23125107 or write to praxis@physiopraxis-nord.invalid. Tell us which treatments are listed on your prescription and whether you have any scheduling constraints. We'll let you know right away when we have appointments available.
- 2
Prescription review
Bring the prescription with you or send us a photo. We check the treatment type, number of sessions, frequency and issue date. If any information is missing, we clarify it with the practice that issued the prescription – before you come in for nothing.
- 3
Initial appointment with assessment
The first appointment takes longer than the following ones. We discuss your symptoms, history and goals, examine mobility, strength and load-bearing capacity, and use this to set the treatment plan. Treatment begins right away.
- 4
Treatment series
Depending on the treatment type, a session lasts 20 to 30 minutes, with manual lymphatic drainage also available at 45 or 60 minutes. Two appointments per week are typical. We schedule all follow-up appointments in the series at once so you have fixed times.
- 5
Completion and billing
At the last appointment you sign the prescription, we document the outcome and give you a recommendation for home care. We settle the co-payment with you directly, while your insurer covers the rest.
Preparation
What to bring to your first appointment
Comfortable clothing helps more than any form: we work on joints and muscles and need to be able to see and move the affected part of your body.
- The original prescription – without it, we cannot bill your insurer
- Your insurance card or, for privately insured patients, your billing address
- Relevant medical records: surgery report, X-ray or MRI report
- Comfortable clothing and sports shoes, especially for equipment-based exercise therapy
- A towel for the treatment table
- If exempt from co-payment: valid proof from your health insurer

Your prescription
The treatment type determines the treatment time
Your prescription shows an abbreviation such as KG, MT or MLD. It defines how long a session lasts and what we may do during that time – here are the treatment types we offer at our practice.
Physiotherapy (KG)
Active and passive exercise therapy based on findings: mobility, strength, coordination. The most frequently prescribed remedy, including after surgery.
Manual therapy (MT)
Targeted techniques applied to joints and surrounding tissue for blockages and restricted movement. Requires additional qualification.
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD)
Gentle hand technique to reduce swelling, for example after surgery or with lymphoedema. Often combined with compression.
Classic massage (KMT)
Treatment of tense muscles in the back, neck and shoulders, often prescribed alongside physiotherapy.
Equipment-based physiotherapy (KGG)
Medical training therapy on sequence training equipment under supervision. Sessions last longer than with other remedies, sometimes in a small group.
Home visit
Treatment at your home if you are unable to come to the practice. The doctor must explicitly note the home visit on the prescription.
