How a treatment works

At your first appointment, we take time for a conversation and assessment before treatment begins. After that, you'll have a plan you understand: goal, number of sessions, exercises for home.

Treatment with a plan

Every course of treatment at our practice begins with an assessment and ends with exercises you can continue at home without equipment.

We don't treat by rote, but by assessment. In the initial consultation, we listen: where it hurts, since when, what has changed, which movement you miss most in everyday life. Only then do we decide which technique to start with – physiotherapy, manual therapy, or a combination. The prescription sets the framework; we determine the order within the series together with you.

What to expect

  • An initial consultation where you describe your complaints and your goal
  • A physical assessment with mobility and strength tests
  • A clear explanation of why we proceed this way
  • Treatments at the pace of the prescription, appointments by arrangement
  • Home exercises that work without equipment
  • A final update to the referring practice on request

From enquiry to aftercare

Between your call and your last treatment there are five stages – we discuss each one with you before it begins.

  1. 1

    Appointment request

Call us at +49 30 23125107 or write to praxis@physiopraxis-nord.invalid. We'll ask about the diagnosis on your prescription and what time of day suits you – mornings from 7:30am or evenings until 7:00pm. If you can't come to the practice, we can arrange a home visit on a Tuesday or Thursday.

  2. 2

    Initial consultation and assessment

The first appointment is dedicated to listening and examining. We take your medical history, check mobility, strength and resilience, and see which movements trigger symptoms. Previous findings such as X-ray or surgery reports help us with this. Treatment usually already begins in this session, but cautiously.

  3. 3

    Treatment plan

The assessment becomes a plan: a concrete goal, the appropriate techniques and the distribution of the prescribed sessions. We tell you what we'll focus on in the first sessions and when we'll review the effect. After this, you'll know what happens in each treatment and how often you'll come.

  4. 4

    Course of treatment

The course runs at the rhythm set by the prescription; it's best to book appointments as a series right away. In each session we ask how things have progressed since last time and adjust the intensity accordingly. If the body responds differently than expected, we adjust the approach – a plan is not a fixed timetable.

  5. 5

    Aftercare and home exercises

At the end of the course, you'll receive two to four exercises you can continue at home without equipment, and we practise them together. On request, we summarise the course of treatment for the prescribing practice. If symptoms remain, we'll discuss what a follow-up prescription could achieve.

Our approach

Understand first, then treat

A treatment works better when you know why it looks the way it does. That's why we explain every technique and every exercise before we apply it – and also tell you what to avoid between appointments.

What we need at your first appointment

With complete documents, more time remains for assessment and treatment – if anything is missing, we'll clarify it by phone before the appointment.

The prescription

The original medical prescription with diagnosis and remedy. Without it, we cannot bill a health insurance treatment.

Insurance card

Your statutory health insurance card; for private insurance, name and address are sufficient for the invoice.

Previous findings

X-ray and MRI reports, surgery reports or discharge letters from the clinic, if available – copies are fine.

Comfortable clothing

Clothing that allows you to move freely, as well as indoor shoes and a towel for training on the equipment.

  • The prescription from your doctor – the form stating the type, number and frequency of treatments. Without this document, we cannot treat you at the expense of your health insurance.
  • Your insurance card; for privately insured patients, name and address are sufficient for the invoice.
  • Any findings you have: surgery report, X-ray or MRI report, hospital discharge letter. These tell us which structures are affected and what level of strain is currently permitted.
  • Comfortable clothing that leaves the affected area free – shorts for knee and hip, sleeveless tops for shoulder and neck.
  • Clean sports shoes if physiotherapy exercises on equipment have been prescribed.
  • For lymphatic drainage: your compression stockings or bandages, so the result is maintained after treatment.

Rescheduling or cancelling an appointment

Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance, by phone or message. This allows another patient to use the slot. For short-notice cancellations, we may charge privately for the reserved time. Prescriptions also have a deadline: if treatment does not begin within the period stated on the prescription, it expires and must be reissued – so it's best to contact us right after your doctor's visit.
